Wow - that's a heavy article. I want to jump to Sydney's defense immediately, but can't help agreeing with her on so many points. The loss of our laneways is tragic. I was in the city on Friday night & was shocked at the crassness of George St - Starbucks Central. But there is hope in the suburbs, or "villages". King St Newtown is increasingly interesting & quirky, especially at the St Peters end. The walking areas around the Cooks River in South Marrickville have been nicely landscaped... oh dear, this all sounds a little pathetic, doesn't it?
